Step 1 - Perform Site Analysis
The first step in the design process is evaluating
the potential at your site for generating power with renewable resources,
and determining which source of renewable energy (PV, Wind and/or Hydro)
is the most abundant at your location. Sundance suggests a professional
Site Analysis.
Site Analysis is critical to the design of your Renewable
Energy System
 |
Solar
During a Sundance site analysis the Solar Pathfinder is used to determine the "solar
window" (the hours of sunlight available at your site for PV production). This
information is used to dictate the best location for the solar array. The most
suitable location for the balance of system components is determined as well
during a site analysis. |

Wind
A Sundance site analysis will determine the proper installation height and location
for your wind turbine, assuming that the average wind speed is of adequate mph.
The average wind speed will be considered as a basis for evaluating whether
or not wind is a viable option at your site. Average wind speed can be estimated
from wind maps. In order to properly size your system, a meter referred to as
an anemometer should be installed on your property over a period of several
months to collect an accurate average wind speed. |

Micro-hydro
A Sundance site analysis will measure the "head" (the vertical drop), and the
flow rate of the water source to evaluate your hydropower generation potential.
The seasonal variation of the flow rate is also important to consider. A site
visit will also determine the best location for balance of system components. |
