Renewable Energy - 5 Step Design Process

Click below to view details of each step.

» Step 1 - Perform Site Analysis
The first step in the design process is evaluating the potential at your site for generating power with renewable resources, and determining which source of renewable energy (PV, Wind and/or Hydro) is the most abundant at your location. Sundance suggests a professional Site Analysis.

» Step 2 - Load Analysis
Use the Load Worksheet to calculate your daily household power consumption in order to determine the electrical demand that your system will be sized to generate. Evaluate reducing your power consumption if necessary. Sundance suggests a professional Load Analysis. » Download Load Worksheet (40KB, PDF File Format)

» Step 3 - Size the Solar Array, Wind Generator, and/or Hydro Turbine
The size of the Solar Array, Wind Generator, and/or Hydro Turbine is determined by the Load Analysis and the Load Correction Factor (in order to compensate for efficiency losses in the system). Sundance suggests a professional System Sizing.

» Step 4 - Size the Battery Bank and Power System Components
The size of the Battery Bank is determined by the Load Analysis, as well as the number of days of autonomy that are required to reserve power in periods of inclement weather when the resource is not available for charging.

» Step 5 - Financial and Environmental Analysis
Finally, consider the environmental impacts of your design, the financial commitment necessary to create your vision, and Financial Incentives available to you.
